About Austin, TX
With Forth Worth and Dallas in the North, San Antonio in the South, and Houston in the East, Austin, Texas serves as an inland city, taking the center stage for a different kind of Texas experience—one that’s unique and proudly weird. Formerly known as Waterloo, Austin is today’s state capital, a vibrant global city boasting the title of Live Music Capital of the World, thanks to its extraordinary live music scene. Throughout the city, every Austinite enjoys a great concentration of live music venues, holding some of the top annual music festivals and concerts in the southwest. Some of these shows and festivals are produced by the longest-running music show in the country, Austin City Limits, and include the largely participated Urban Music Festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest, and Old Settler’s Music Festival.
Beyond its hip soundtrack of a vibe, Austin has also noted an influx of technological industries, earning it its “Silicon Hills” nickname in the 90s. In the present century, this name still remains as Austin continues to thrive as an economic center and metroplex, housing several giant headquarters and regional offices for IBM, Motorola, BAE Systems, Amazon, Apple, Tesla, Oracle, and many more.
